Santa Fe’s Las Tejedoras Fiber Arts Guild takes center stage at New Mexico’s 1st Annual Fiber Crawl

 

More than 40 venues in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Española and Taos to take part in events celebrating the Fiber Arts May 12 through May 14

(Santa Fe, NM April, 2017)  The first New Mexico Fiber Crawl, a weekend that opens doors to spaces of local fiber artists, cultural centers, stores, farms, and museums, will take place in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Española and Taos from Friday, May 12 through Sunday May 14. In Santa Fe, Las Tejedoras Fiber Arts Guild will host a kick-off party on Friday evening, May 12 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe in the Railyard District. The party is open to the public and will showcase an exhibit of invitational and juried works from distinguished fiber artists across New Mexico.  The exhibit continues through May 13th and 14th and is open to the public. Admission is free.

The Fiber Crawl events continue at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe on Saturday May 13 and Sunday May 14 from 10am - 5pm. This hub for Santa Fe activities and information will have weaving, spinning, knitting, and felting demonstrations, maps and information about the other Fiber Crawl sites around town and their activities, and vendors booths selling a variety of hand-crafted items.  Free New Mexico Fiber Crawl Passports for access to all the sites will be available for Crawl participants who want to be eligible for raffle prizes. Throughout Santa Fe, sculptures at various outdoor locations will be fiber bombed with colorful, whimsical hats, scarves, and other amusing creations.

The evening's event will feature an Invitational and Juried Exhibit of works by distinguished New Mexican Fiber Artists. There will be 12-15 vendors, demos of a variety of fiber arts, and refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.

Demonstrations

Members of Las Tejedoras Fiber Arts Guild will demonstrate a variety of weaving, spinning, knitting, basketry and Japanese Kumihimo braiding at the opening kick-off party, and throughout the Fiber Crawl weekend - Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14. Other sites in Santa Fe will also be demonstrating their speciality and will offer a ton of information on everything from alpacas, to yarns and equipment, and original hand created clothing and accessories.

12-15 vendors will be at El Museo Cultural during the 2017 New Mexico Fiber Crawl. Las Tejdoras is hosting the site. The beautiful shawlette was knitted by Kathy Konecki.

Why did the fish wear a hat? On Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14, sculptures at various outdoor locations throughout Santa Fe will be fiber bombed with colorful, whimsical hats, scarves, and other amusing creations. If you see one, take a photo and share with your fiber friends!
